In a recent post I spoke about how HipHop might see a renaissance in 2009. I also dropped a few names that might be part of this movement but I wanted to go a little more into details with this topic. I’m pretty sure all of you saw Daytona’s video, today I want you to meet Amanda Diva. Amanda is from Florida but has been in New York for a while now. She’s a host on Sirius Satellite Radio, MTV2 and writes for XXL magazine. She completed her master in African American Studies at Columbia. And she is an exceptional spoken word artist, rapper and singer. “Spandex, Ryhmes & Soul” is her brand-new mixtape/EP that was released in early march and which I absolutely recommend. Please don’t expect some average hiphop you know from the radio, this is more like a young Lauryn Hill meets “Stankonia” OutKast meets Tribe Called Quest meets guitars. Amanda Diva calls it Hiptronicsoul and I agree.
