Here’s another interesting release that came out on Valentine’s Day alongside the Raheem Devaughn album “Destination: Loveland”. Jenny Bapst is one of the most interesting new artists to come out of New York City and with the support from my people Dro and the amazing singer/songwriter Hal Linton, she has a great team for the future. Introducing Jenny Bapst, a singer/songwriter born in Paris to a french father and a black/native american mother. At a tender age she was introduced to soul, funk and r&b. She was later discovered by a modeling agent, giving her an opportunity to travel and experience all genres of music.

Jenny moved to NY 7 years ago to model while still pursuing her singing career. A true “globetrotter”, Jenny traveled the world submerging herself in the culture and music of every country she visited, whether it be the house/electro music of Berlin and Paris or the reggae and dance hall of the Caribbean. Her eclectic music taste has lead her to her current project “Just 4 Play”. This introduction will take you on a musical journey, as it integrates many international sounds.

I guess like so many of us, I was devastated when I heard the news that Whitney Houston passed away February 11th, 2012. While I was still djing in a club in Germany I immediately decided to play a few of my favorite Whitney club songs and I have to admit it touched me a lot playing these songs while the news was only a few hours old. I took some time to go through the crates and really dig up some of Whitney’s biggest classics, some of my personal favorites and overlooked gems from her albums to put together a mix that premiered on this week’s episode of my radio show on Jam FM. It’s Valentine’s Day and Raheem Devaughn is keeping his promise. “Destination Loveland” is a full album for free download with 14 incredible new tracks including two songs produced by our main man Crada. Other featured artists on this project include Snoop Dogg (who also narrated the whole affair), Marsha Ambrosius, Phil Ade, James Blake and Dwele.

Dear Mrs. Houston,

we never met, matter of fact, you don’t even know that I exist, but you have been a part of my life.

When I was a young kid, my mom used to play your songs on the radio. You made me want to dance with somebody. You made me wonder how I will know. When I was 8 years old, I sat in front of the tv and witnessed you move a whole nation and the rest of the world with just one moment in time. Shortly after, when I was 10 years old, I saw you sitting on this motorbike and I realized how beautiful you are as a person. Only months later you starred in “Bodyguard’ and became the biggest popstar on the face of the planet. I’m grateful to have witnessed that in person. To say that I will always love you would be an understatement. You have been an inspiration and a source of joy ever since I can imagine and throughout your career and throughout my life, this never changed. When you let the world know that you and Bobby had something in common, I felt that I could hear your happiness in every little line of that song. You said that your love is my love. But it’s much more than that. If I ever could love music the way you did it, I’d be a blessed man. Your contribution to soul music and pop culture is unmatched and it was obvious to see how we had all been waiting for your return because noone ever managed to do what you do, to be who you are.

I don’t know what happened to you and why you had to leave us so soon. Maybe media will tell the world within the next days. Maybe we’ll never find out. All I know is, it’s not right, but it’s okay. I feel this way because deep inside I have a little hope that by now maybe you’re reliefed. Maybe your beautiful soul is free now. Maybe your spirit is growing wings now. And maybe, you being in a better place, will have you feeling like a million dollar bill one more time.

Now that you’re gone, we all have the answer to our biggest question. Didn’t we almost have it all? Yes, we did. There will never be another.

I can’t recall when I was posting a german rap video for the last time but time’s have changed and there’s quite a few new artists that really deserve recognition. Lots of talent, new ideas, new musical visions make german rap music the most exciting since a good 10 years ago. Ahzumjot is probably my favorite artist out of the new generation and yes, he really stands out. “Nicht Viel” (Not Much) is the second video single off Ahzumjot’s album “Monty” which is available on iTunes and Amazon digitally. Please support the kid, I truely believe he is the future.

Ich kann mich nicht erinnern, wann ich das letzte Mal ein deutsches Rap-Video gepostet habe, aber in den letzten Jahren hat sich viel getan und es gibt eine ganze Menge neuer Künstler, denen wirklich einiges an Aufmerksamkeit zusteht. Viel Talent, neue Ideen und neue musikalische Visionen tragen dazu bei, dass deutscher Rap so spannend wie schon seit knapp 10 Jahren nicht mehr ist. Ahzumjot ist dabei wahrscheinlich der Künstler, den ich am meisten feier, und ja, meiner Meinung nach sticht er auch wirklich heraus. “Nicht Viel” ist schon die zweite Videosingle aus seinem Album “Monty”, das auf iTunes und Amazon (etc) überall erhältlich ist. Vollen Support für den Jungen, ich glaube ihm gehört die Zukunft.
